Diabetic retinopathy
People with diabetes can have an eye disease called diabetic retinopathy. This is when high blood sugar levels cause damage to blood vessels in the retina. These blood vessels can swell and leak. Or they can close, stopping blood from passing through. Sometimes abnormal new blood vessels grow on the retina. All of these changes can steal your vision.

Glaucoma Evaluation
Normal eye pressure ranges from 12-22 mm Hg, and eye pressure of greater than 22 mm Hg is considered higher than normal. When the IOP is higher than normal but the person does not show signs of glaucoma, this is referred to as ocularhypertension. High eye pressure alone does not cause glaucoma.
Cataract and IOL Surgery
A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens.
Symtoms
You may notice that your vision is blurred a little, like looking through a cloudy piece of glass. A cataract may make light from the sun or a lamp seem too bright or glaring. Or you may notice when you drive at night that the oncoming headlights cause more glare than before. Colors may not appear as bright as they once did. When a nuclear cataract first develops, it can bring about a temporary improvement in your near vision, called “second sight.”Unfortunately, the improved vision is short-lived and will disappear as the cataract worsens.
Cataract Surgery
The procedure typically is performed on an outpatient basis and does not require an overnight stay in a hospital or other care facility.
Modern cataract surgery called phacoemulsification or “phaco,” involves the use of a high-frequency ultrasound device that breaks up the opaque lens into small pieces, which are then gently removed from the eye with suction.
Advantages of phacoemulsification
- Very small incision size
- No need for stitches
- No need for injection around the eye for before surgery as phacoemulsification can be efficiently performed under topical anaesthesia after applying just an eyedrop.
- The procedure is painless
- Recovery is speedy due to faster healing
After the removal of catarctous lens ,clear intraocular lens is inserted , in the same location your natural lens occupied. The incision is then closed without any stitch. Patients are advised to wear a protective glass to keep the eye safe in the early stages of recovery.
